This question is from my exam. I was able to do the conversion but I think that what I did was not a neat way to perform the conversion.

I started by reacting Ehtylamine with NaNO₂ and HCl to get Ethanol. I oxidised it to Ethanoic acid and converted the acid to an amide. Then I performed Hofmann degradation to get Methylamine.

Are there any simpler methods?
