Aldehyde, reactivity towards alcohols and amines?
« on: January 08, 2013, 09:32:16 AM »
Hi,

I am doubting about the reactivity of aldehyde or ketones towards alcohols and amines. From my knowledge, amines should be more reactive because they are more nucleophilic. But I also heard about the formation of acetals and hemiacetals from aldehydes and alcohols...

I guess that is depending under which conditions...but do u have any idea?

Thanks!

Both react with aldehydes, as you say it depends on the conditions.
Have you any thoughts as to these conditions?
