Solidification and enthalpy...

Is the process of solidification an exothermic or an endhothermic process?  If I were to take a sample of a liquid metal at its melting point and solidify by placing it in a sample of water, this would indicate an increase in temperature of water, which means energy has been released from metal.  So it is an exothermic process, right?

What about freezing water?

You are correct.  The freezing of just about anything will be an exothermic process.
