This class of reactions seems commonly carried out with NaOH or KOH and less commonly Ca(OH)2.

I was wondering what'd the kinetics look like? More specifically would [Na+] / [Ca+2]  etc. be more relevant or [OH-]?
Or both? Any ideas how to approach this?

Maybe the question only makes sense for the sparingly soluble bases; eg. Ca(OH)2?

PS. Chirality unintended in my drawing.

The OH- is the agent what is necessary. It is an intramolecular Sn2 reaction.

Thanks! I didn't realize the SN2 part.

I guess I'll use this model then:

Rate = k[Halohydrin][OH-]
