I am wondering how they got the equation to solve for N content?
I looked everywhere and could not find any derivation of it, could someone please show me how they got that?

I would start with reaction equations.

I tried. I understand the BC and DE part and subtracting them, but I can't understand where in the world does the 7 come from?

That's usually stoichiometric coefficient, that's why I suggested to write reaction equations.
Note: I have not checked if the equation is correct, doesn't have to be. But following stoichiometry is the only way to check.

Oh I see where the 7 came from (atomic mass of N and the fact that nitrite supplies 2 electrons in the half reaction).
