how many hemiketal/acetal centers are there?
« on: February 15, 2013, 07:48:42 PM »
hemiketal = OR, OH, R, R
acetal = OR, OR, H, R/H

The picture is attached. I see 1 ketal at carbon 5, and 2 acetals at carbon 3 and 14. Do you guys see any others or is that it?

What are the substrituents at carbon 5? Compare this to your posted definitions of ketal and hemiketal.

where? I only see acetals at 3 and 14, and a ketal at 5. there are no other places that have 2 OR groups right next to each other, and no places that have OH, OR, R, R

If you see a ketal at carbon 5 then the same functionality is also at carbon 18 (assuming I can see OK)

carbon 18 has a hydrogen that isnt drawn in there, so that is a hemiacetal not a hemiketal
