Chloroform/Methanol

Hello all,

Do chloroform and methanol yield any sort of reaction to generate a product? they are 100% insoluble within each other correct?

They do not react with each other and are soluble in each other.

Furthermore, methanol is miscible with mostly all orgainic solvents except for cycloalkanes.  Its a good choice for rinsing out equipment, for example, an HPLC system you're transferring from normal phase to aqueous phase.

In the presence of atmospheric oxygen, chloroform may generate phosgene, which would react with methanol to form dimethyl carbonate, via methyl chloroformate as the intermediate. For this reason sometimes commercial chloroform is conditioned with ethanol.

what polar solvent other than water can be used with chloroform that is unreactive with it and is not soluble in it either? any ideas?
