So in an attempt to save some money, I was thinking about synthesizing my own retin-A...if you look up the structure of Vitamin A1 and then retin-A/tretinoin you can see that the only big difference is that the alkene (carbon double-bond) at the end of the chain is carboxylated of vitamin A1. I haven't taken organic chemistry for some years and was wondering if anybody knows of a for-at-home-use reagent can be used to make that reaction go through. Is this crazy? Maybe...but is this possible?
Thanks!
