Preparation of p-toluic acid from p-bromotoluene
« on: April 18, 2013, 09:28:06 PM »
Hi guys, today i have done an experiment related with "Grignard Reagent ", we started with p-bromotoluene , then preparing p-tolymagnesium bromide, then become p-toluic acid. Here are the questions that i am concerned after experiment.

1. How do i know if i have prepared p-toluic acid and not just recovered p-bromotoluene ? What are the key things i need to be aware to know for identifying p-toluic acid.

2. If i have prepared p-toluic acid successfully, any indications i need to be aware regarding the purity of my product ?

How could you separate a mixture of p-toluic acid & p-bromotoluene? What has changed?
