Synthesis Problem!
« on: April 19, 2013, 10:57:20 AM »
Hi, I'm trying to figure out how to synthesize the following compound using ethane as my only source of carbon prepare:

Methyl isopropyl ketone

Other names:
Isopropyl methyl ketone
IUPAC: 3-methylbutan-2-one

I believe the written formula would look like this:
CH3CH2(=O)CH(CH3)CH3

Here's it's Wikipedia article link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methyl_isopropyl_ketone

Any help would be appreciated! Please let me know what synthesis reactions I could use and in which order. I need to figure this out by April 25th, thanks for your *delete me*
