Question regarding metalized boards
« on: May 02, 2013, 11:39:14 PM »
Hi dear all
Thank you for your time .
I'm new to this forum . i'm an electronic engineer but i love chemistry too ( as self reading and some kind of hobby  ) .
I saw many of the fiber glass boards which have a copper screen in both sides . and i saw many of the companies around the world using these boards for electronics industry . ( to make electronics circuits )
My problem is : i saw when they create holes on these boards they will use a method that rim of these holes will have a copper screen too ( kind of chemical process ) . i've asked a friend of mine who is a chemistry engineer . and he advised me to use a DC power supply and then use a piece of copper and then a plastic dish which is full of water and then suing that board which has any of the wholes ( tie it through the + VDC and then tie the piece of copper through the -VDC ) and then he advised me to use copper salt ( i hope i correctly mentioned it's name i'm referring to the blue crystals which are related to the copper ) . and then he told me after passing a short time rim of those holes will be full of copper and thus there will be an electrical  path through one side of the board through the other side . i tried to do it bu i couldn't get success . and my friend old me value of voltage and water and copper salt are important in this process . but i suspect if this process is wrong ?
Can anybody please guide me to handle it ?
I hope i've asked my question in a right place .

Thanks in advance

Do you have any links or picture/graphical references? What you're friend described is electroplating. This is done through an electrolytic cell with a dissolved salt to apply a certain metal onto a substrate. In this case, it is copper anode, substrate (not sure what it is in your case) cathode, copper sulfate solution.
