« on: June 14, 2013, 08:15:09 AM »
Hi everyone ,,

Am doing a project and I want to light coal dust with matches only ,, I have 2 Ideas only , mix dust with sulfur or mix it with petroleum fuel .. I want to know will it light using any of those methods ?? with only matches ? Is it safe ? and will there be any smell out of it ??

If anyone have any other ideas on how to light coal please share ..

Doesn't sound particularly safe.  Not very unsafe, but then again, not everything is perfectly safe, either.  I really wonder about this "project" -- what is the whole assignment?  What chemical concepts will you be answering, when you do solve the problem?  I doubt they give assignments in the forum of: "Find something more or less dangerous and do it, +5 points if maimed, +10 if seriously maimed."  You're going to have to state a problem, what you intend to do (you did that part, matches, sulfur and petrol), and how your answer works.  Write out those parts for us, so we can see where you might want to change the experiment.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
