Parentheses under reaction arrow?

Hi. I know this might seem like a stupid question, but what do the items in parentheses under the reaction arrow in this reaction mean? Does it mean that HCl or POCl3 could also be used as the source of chlorine when converting the alcohol into alkyl chloride? Thanks in advance :)

Note the - sign. It means that these compounds are eliminated during the reaction.
