Metals that react with water also react with blood?
« on: July 09, 2013, 06:39:58 AM »
Just wondering if the metals such as rubidium, caseium, potassium etc also react with blood like they do with water in their pure form. I would assume that they would, since blood(plasma) is 95% water. If not why is there no reaction? Anyone ever experiment with this or know of a experiment that has done this?

so the reaction of rubidium and blood would be the same as if you dropped it into water?

Would not you think the vastly higher concentration of a constituent in a homogenous mixture / solution would react more probably than other constituents in the mixture, with some side reactions that could go unseen.

For most part yes. Go to a friendly neighborhood slaughterhouse & try.  ;D

could become a little costly, though

rubidium sells in the ballpark of gold pricing....

There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

Thank goodness at least blood comes cheap. :)

Ok, use sodium and pretend it is Rubidium.

What is the back ground of this question. Why you want to do a reaction of an alcaline metal with blood?
