8 unlabeled bottles
« on: July 12, 2013, 08:51:24 AM »
Hi, I have to use simple chemical tests to distinguish among the substances in the image.
Can anyone give me some tips for solving this kind of problems?
Sorry for my English, thank you.

Look for unique functional groups in each molecule.

Which ones would be most likely to disolve in acid solution and which in basic solution if any? Could you derivatise any of them?

Are there any tests that you know of for specific functional groups like C=C or C=O? how could you use these to eliminate certain molecules?
