Nice. What's the name reaction for #1 and the mechanisms for both? Why do you think your prof asked you to do problem #1? How would you convert your starting diol to trans-stilbene?

I don't know the name of the first reaction.
About mechanisms: the first stage is SNi, the second stage is probably E2 or E1cB, I'm not assured about it.
