Solid and pure NaCl is a common primary standard for standardizing AgNO3 solutions. However, this is only one of its many uses.
NO2- is a weak oxidizing agent. I came across this reaction, but, to be honest, I've no idea about its application:
2 NO
2

+ 4 H
3
0

+ 3 I
-
-> 2 NO + 6 H
2
O + I

This reaction produces pure iodine in the lab
2NO2(-) + 4H30(+) + 2I(-) -> 2NO(g) + 6H2O + I2(s)
NaCl can be used for obtaining HCl
NaCl + H2SO4 = NaHSO4 + HCl(g) (RT)
NaCl + NaHSO4 = Na2SO4 + HCl9g) (when warming)
or chlorine with H2SO4 and KMnO4, or K2Cr2O7, or MnO2, or Pb3O4
