TBAF preparing
« on: September 03, 2013, 10:48:11 PM »
Nowdays  ,I want to prepare TBAF AS a Fluoride reagent, as we know , tbaf is a solid at  room temperature ,we choses methods from J. Org. Chem. 1989,54,4829-4832, we use TBAB and KF as reagents  ,MeOH as solvents ,but at last we got a yellow liquid , dose  someone  have prepared TBAF , HOW  CAN I get solid TBAF ,Could you  give me some suggestions , thanks!

Can you tell us how you worked this reaction up to get the yellow liquid?

Thank you  for your reply!
we choses methods from J. Org. Chem. 1989,54,4829-4832

Preparation of TBAF .
A mixture of  6.3 g  of TBAC,40 mL of absolute methanol, and 2.2 g  of potassium fluoride containing 4% by weight of water is stirred at room temperature for 15 min. The mixture is filtered, to the solution is added another fraction of 2.2 g of potassium fluoride, and the mixing is continued for an additional 15 min.
After filtration 25% of the methanol is evaporated under vacuum at room temperature, the mixture is filtered again, and this procedure is repeated four times until all the methanol is removed.before the last times, 3 mL of  water was added (it is recommended to add several equivalents of water at the very last step of the evaporation to yield the corresponding hydrates which are stable at room temperature.)
The oily product was found    , we have not got solid tbaf
Bu4NCl + kF -------Bu4NF + KCl  I want to know why I have not got a solid TBAF or what problems our experiments existence?
 thank you !

You may still have too much solvent in the oil you have. Place it under which vacuum and try to remove any last traces of solvent.

we have noted this problem and  try our best to remove the solvents under vacuum until the product's weight reached a  stable number, but it still a liquid .we want to know others how to prepare TBAF or synthesis methods to ensure our methods  way  is  right

Are you pulling it off with rotovap? Or have you tried the high vac too?

Try this out. You will get super-anhydrous TBAF.
