What is the density of chloroform at 25 degrees Celsius?
« on: September 14, 2013, 01:25:33 PM »
Doing a Gen Chem review and there is no answer key. Given 41.428 g as the mass and had to solve for the volume given the mass of the container containing water and the mass containing the chloroform and the density of water at 25 degrees Celsius.

I got 4.335 g/mL.

Why don't you show us the work you did, from the data you were given, so we can see how you came to your answer.  You think chloroform is 4 times as dense as water -- its heavy, in bulk, but its not that heavy.  Why, you've calculated its twice as heavy as solid magnesium or aluminum metal.  And that's silly.

Oh, and P.S.

Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
