Iodine by Graphite Furnace?
« on: November 15, 2013, 03:03:01 PM »
Is anyone aware of precedent for using graphite furnace atomic absorption for the determination of iodine?  I am specifically interested in developing a method if possible for human plasma iodine by graphite furnace.  We presently refer these specimens to a reference lab where they are done by ICP/MS.  We have a Perkin-Elmer PinnAAcle instrument (flame and furnace).  I do realize that there is no specific iodine lamp available.  Any input would be most welcome.  Thanks.

I am not confidently that you can do this.with GC-AAS, It is worth contacting the suppliers of GF-AAS with the your query.

I have a comprehensive periodic table for GF-AAS, ICP-OES AND ICP-MS Limits of detection from a vendor at work but I don't remember seeing halogens with AA.

Unless anyone can give you data, I can post these on Monday.

Do a Google search for a document titled "PERKIN ELMER, WORLD LEADER IN AA, ICP-OES AND ICP-MS"

Page 14 of this document suggests that GFAAS is not suitable for iodine analysis.
