Yes that aldehyde could be formed by HCl elimination to give the enol of that aldehyde.

May I suggest the polymer in the first post, but with some oxygen less in the main chain, and some cross-links between the chains, the hydrogen freed by cross-links building water together with the oxygen? The heat of this reaction is 130kJ more favourable than making chlorostyrene.
