Peroxy Acids and Metals
« on: February 26, 2014, 06:26:14 AM »
Anyone know of a good article that gives info on Peracids!? My question is mostly why Peracids can't be put together with metals and whats the reaction behind it.

What are your thoughts. How do normal acids react with metals? What kind of reagents are _per_acids?

The two things I begin to think about is corrosion and oxidation potentials:

The reaction between water and Iron, the redox reaction is positive meaning that its spontaneous and occurs. In short this is the direction of how I have been thinking about it.

However peroxide forms when peracids are breaking down, so I'm not sure if that product would cause another side reaction or am I thinking in the wrong direction

Im not sure if this helps, but I can definitely imagine this going on with peracid instead of hydrogen peroxide
http://www.lenntech.com/fenton-reaction.htm
So if hydrogen peroxide is formed then it breaks down into the hydroxyl radical which reacts with everything in sight
