Topic: Counting electrons of inorganic complexes with b-diketonates  (Read 7145 times)

Counting electrons of inorganic complexes with b-diketonates

How does one do an electron count for something like Hf[acac]4? Like, how many electrons do we say the acetyl acetone donates to the metal? This seems so trivial, but its throwing me off.

May be this helps (arbitrary structure of complexin analogy to known Hf4+ complexes with CN=8). Add missing electron pairs to oxygen atoms (4x2 and 4x1).

Zirconium (acac)4 shows the structure presented above.


Here is a real structure of hafnium complex.
