DMF removal from water soluble product
« on: April 01, 2014, 04:49:35 PM »
My product is Metformin.HCl which is highly water soluble, and i had used DMF as the solvent. I plan of giving an IPA wash to my product, to remove the DMF. Any idea on how much IPA to be used to remove the DMF? And also alternative methods of removing DMF. I'm working on a project which is Industrial scale.

I always use acetone for hydrochlorides. However I have never used this particular salt.

Also when something is in DMF it never seems to want to come out.

I take it your plant cannot get enough heat and vacuum to just distill it off? then azeotrope a couple of times with toluene?

This is how I do it in the lab but this is impractical on a commercial scale

Toluene azeotropes are often used in industry to remove things like this. It is really easy to do in a plant.
