If 2H has a mass of 2.01410 amu , 3He has a mass of 3.01603 amu, 4He has a mass of 4.00260 amu, and 1H has a mass of 1.00782 amu, how much energy is released or consumed in the creation of 5.0 g of 4He by the following process? 2H + 3He → 4He + 1H
For this I know ill need to use E=MC2. I also am sure ill need to know the change in mass by doing (4.0026+1.00782)-(2.01410+3.01603)=-.01971g. The next step is where I am a little confused. I know if it were 1mol I could just plug all that into E=MC2 but I dont think I can here because I have the 5.0g. Any idea what to do?
Thanks much!
