Chemical Formulas Unit thingy

Alright this thing still confuses me ... Lets say a question asks, How many magnesium atoms are represented by one formula unit of each of the following Ionic compounds.... What do they mean? and how would I go answering for lets say MgSO4 or Mg3(PO4)2.

This is formula of a "molecule" of an ionic compound, just count the atoms.

Technically there is no such thing as a "molecule" of an ionic compound (unless we are talking about exotic conditions), but you can think of "formula unit" as another name of a molecule.
