Hi, I am looking at 39% nitric acid. I also had the same question about sulfuric acid, and just acids in general. are they by volume/volume or mass/volume, mass/volume or what?

Acids percentage is calculated by weight. Nitric acid 39% w.w means in 1 kg acid is 390 g HNO

Volume percentage is used for alcohol. 40% whiskey contain 400 ml Ethanol in 1 l.
