Testing for Radon
« on: December 03, 2014, 05:38:22 PM »
Hey, so I'm an IB Chemistry student and we have to come up with a project for our "Group 4" project. My group is doing a test for Radon in our school, but all the radon test kits I've found are a set up and send back when done for results. Is there a way for us to test it without a kit, or, better yet, how can we analyze the test kits in our own lab? Thanks

This page lists typical test procedures for radon:  http://public.health.oregon.gov/HealthyEnvironments/HealthyNeighborhoods/RadonGas/Pages/typesofradontesting.aspx  It doesn't seem likely that you'll be able to execute these procedures.

Where is your school? Perhaps there is a university with the right equipment near by?
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.

Try a quick Google.  The ability to test for radon is beyond a high school project.  If you have a different application, we can try to see what you can do.
