Formation of Enamine
« on: April 02, 2006, 05:50:55 PM »
Hi; I was wondering if someone could please help me with this question: The formation of an enamine (reaction of cyclohexanone and pyrrolidine) is an unfavorable equilibrium reaction.  Why is this unfavorable?  And also how can the equilibrium be forced to the enamine side?  Thanks for your help.

Have you ever heard of allylic strain?

For driving the equibrium, draw out the balanced equation and then think in terms of Le Chattlier's principle.
