Gibbs energy at triple point
« on: December 29, 2014, 08:20:11 AM »
At the triple point on phase diagram, all phase boundaries disappear. I want to know about Gibbs energy . G=0 at triple point ?

At the triple point Gsolid = Gliquid = Gvapour. ΔG is 0 for any of the phase transitions, but G itself is not 0.

At the triple point all three phases are at equilibrium, for the phase transitions ΔG = 0.
The chemical potentials for solid, liquid and gas are equal.
