Help drawing Lewis Structure for SO2 +2
« on: January 11, 2015, 10:36:00 PM »
Hi guys,

As part of my chemistry homework I need to name and draw Lewis Structures for an array of chemicals and poly atomic ions; one of these being SO22+. I have a couple questions related to this. First, how would you name this polyatomic ion? I was thinking it might be called hyposulfite but I'm not sure if this is correct as I'd imagine hyposulfite would be SO22-. I'm pretty sure SO22+ isn't something that actually occurs in nature.

My second problem was forming a lewis structure. I know that both oxygen and sulfur have 6 valence electrons so the total number of electrons in my structure should be 6 + 6(2) - 2 = 16, however I'm not sure exactly how to draw this. Help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
