Can a simple double bond be alkylated through a mechanizm similar to a Fiedel-Crafts aromatics alkylation?

Ive seen reactions like that but Im not sure if they were general or that it just worked on that given substrate.

I can imagine a problem with simple alkenes being related to a general problem in which an alkene product would be more reactive than the starting material may make simple examples more difficult to find. An example of the mechanism can be found in the squalene oxide cyclization, http://chemistry.umeche.maine.edu/CHY252/Squalene1.html. An acylation reaction would work better.
