Propose mechanism for this reaction
« on: April 08, 2015, 11:49:36 AM »
Hi all

How will the mechanism proceed for this reaction?

Here is my attempt at the mechanism.

My only concern is the formation of the 4 membered ring in the 3rd step - does it really have to go through that step?

Thank you  ;D

I think it unlikely. What do acetals do in the presence of acid?

Hint, draw an intermediate for the normal hydrolysis of acetal/ketals.
