Need help with BA paper
« on: April 08, 2015, 05:51:45 PM »
Hi :) I'm a student from Poland and I'm writing my BA paper about english neologisms in the field of chemistry. I was wondering if someone could help me by giving some new chemical terminology since 2004. I would be glad if you help me :)

Only trend I have seen with new terminology is with the 'omics', but just looking them up the three big ones, 'Proteomics' was coined in 1997, 'Metabolomics' in 1998, and 'Nutrigenomics' was coined in 1999, before your 2004 limit.

I'm sure there are many highly technical new terms (chemical IUPAC formulas), etc that have been generated since 2004, but these I would not consider hitting mainstream terminology.

Another one I thought of and it is from after 2004 is "Olympicene". It is not a major new "widely used" term, but it is a new chemical that was synthesized for the 2012 Olympics with the shape of the five rings of the Olympics.

No collages in Poland.

And I don't think there are many colleges either, that's not how the educational system in Poland is organized. My bet is OP is/was studying at an University.
