Oxidising and reducing agents
« on: June 10, 2015, 02:23:14 AM »
I need to identify the species which is the oxidizing agent and reducing agent in the reaction below
PbO2 + SO2  :rarrow: PbSO4

I've worked out that Pb in PbO2 is the oxidizing agent and S in SO2 is the reducing agent. The answer scheme indicate PbO2 as the oxidizing agent and SO2 as the reducing agent. Am I wrong or am I being more specific? Thanks

It is correct. You are more specific.

Check which substance is oxidized ...check oxidation number on Pb and S on both sides
