I think I made something highly toxic...?
« on: July 19, 2015, 02:49:06 PM »
So I mixed up some cleaning products with ampicillin trihydrate in a small glass cup. The mixture turned yellow and gave out a pungent cyanide/bitter almonds smell. The cleaning products contained:

CP1: Sodium hipochlorite.

CP2: Benzisothiazolinone, Butylphenyl methylpropional and Hexyl cinnamal.

Now I'm trying to find out what reaction(s) took place, between which substances and what was the yellow substance which resulted. Can anyone help me out?

Ampicillin is quite a complex molecule, it is likely that you produced complex mixtures.

Mixing chemicals randomly with will probably not end well. You need to be careful, otherwise you will end up hurting yourself.
