Hehe, someone has too much time on their hands ;)

I've never seen mentos sold over here, but dropping a few lumps of MgSo4 into a carbonated drink does pretty much the same thing (and a fairly nasty surprise for anyone trying to drink the remainder left in the bottle, as Mg2+ is a pretty powerful osmotic laxative ;D)

Yes, indeed.  ;D

In Italy (but, maybe, it's something common everywhere) we call MgSO4 'English Salt'.

No idea about the reason. :-[

In Austria we call it "Bittersalz" which means "bitter salt". If you want to know why it is called so just try it ;D

I don't know if it (MgSO4) has a name over here in the U.S.

Next time I see someone with a 2 liter bottle of soda in school, they better watch themselves.  ;)

That's it, Epsom salt is MgSO4-7H2O.

if you're fast enough to get the lid on after you dump in the mentos, it is really cool. ;D
