QUESTION about halogens
« on: February 23, 2016, 04:12:58 PM »
Why is the statement false?
Iodine liberates free bromine from a solution of bromide ion.

I assume that it's because Br is a better oxidizing agent than I, it would be easier for Br to gain electrons rather than losing e-. Is this valid?

Yes, that's more or less the correct answer. Activities of halogens go like F > Cl > Br > I.
