Iron Tablets, KMnO4 Titration Questions
« on: March 18, 2016, 03:53:46 PM »
Hi, Im Mike and this is my first post on this forum.

I did a titration of Iron tablets against 0.01M KMnO4, my average titre was 26cm3.

I am currently stuck on a few questions and was wondering if anybody could help me

Why is it important to filter the crushed tablets before synthesizing the solution?

If Vitamin C was present in the iron tablets, the titre would be higher then expected, why is this?

Some of the Fe 2+ in the solution has been oxidized to Fe3+. What test would you use to check the oxidation has occurred?

Thank you in advance for your help, I really appreciate it

Tablets usually contains starch and sugars that also reduce manganate, the same concerns Vit. C.
There is a very nice qualitative (and quantitative) test for Fe3+. Just search internet.
