OK! I'm pleased my "guess work" kinda helped out there. I did happen to know that you can make alum blocks out of Ammonium Alum, and as I have tonnes of experience sourcing chemistry bits through unusual channels, I completely aware how liberal with the facts retailers are.

Hi everyone.
Alum is a coagulant agent that using for water treatment. When you add some alum to water Al+3 and SO4-2 dissolves in water, Al+3 gets the OH from H2O and releases H+
so an Al(OH)3 forms. That Al(OH)3 is an insoluable gel. When alum turns an Al(OH)3 gel, its not possible to react with Sodium Carbonate
