Question about T shape molecule
« on: July 07, 2016, 12:39:58 PM »
If a question asked to use VSEPR to determine the shape of a molecule and the molecule happened to be T-Shape would it be enough just to draw the molecule and mention it is t - shape (image attached below)?

Would it make sense to distinguish between the two T-shape molecules by mentioning that the T-shape molecule is either a derivative of the "Trigonal Bipyramidal" group and the other is a derivative of the "Octahedral" group? Or am I using the term "group" wrongly here and it is unnecessary? Thanks

Is molecular geometry and VSEPR the same thing right? Meaning using electron geometry SeH4 would be called "Trigonal bipyramid" whereas when using VSEPR to name the molecule it would be called "Seasaw".
