Redox Equation - Help
« on: September 17, 2016, 04:41:49 AM »
Hi there.

It's been a while since I've done ion-electron half equations. I would appreciate if somebody could help me out with this one:

Write a balanced redox equation, using the half equation method, for the reaction between potassium iodate (KIO3) and manganese sulfate (MnSO4) in acid solution, which produces manganese dioxide and potassium iodide.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

All the best,

Duncan.

Start by writing out the reaction in chemical shorthand.  Then break the compounds apart into ions.  This is red-ox -- something gains electrons and something loses them, there's your half reactions.

This is how we help here at the Chemical Forums, we just give hints to help you, help yourself.  Its all in the Forum Rules{click}.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
