Skatole 3-methylindole is soluble in alcohol. I would assume this is Methyl alcohol. Does it have to be pure or can a lower purity of alcohol be used ? Can it be denatured ? What is the max solution ratio, dry skatole to alcohol for 100% strength ? Thanks

When this is reported without qualifiers, it usually means ethanol.  However, for many things, not everything but many thingsmethanol, ethanol, isopropanol solubility is the same.

Impure with what?  Water?  Gasoline?  Dirt?

Can it be denatured ?

Probably the best choice, pure ethanol is expensive.  There's no such thing as denatured methanol.

What strength is needed for your application?   Often, the same reference that tells you solubility, tells you how soluble it is.

By the way, anyone can Google for the nature of skatole.  It smells like ... no, it is the smell of s#*$.  Care to trouble us with what your application is?

I understand and apologize for breaking the rules of your forum. I am a retired Deputy Sheriff /Corrections Officer who continues to teach part time at the academy. Some of the classes I teach are crowd and combative individual control. I am interested in this as a dispersal agent with no immflamitory or irritant physical symptoms. This will help to avoid the medical response to individuals exposed to pepper spray or CS, CN tear gas. I do not find any commercial production of this agent, but I did find information that it has been used by Israelis as a crowd control agent. So if I can't buy it, I was thinking about making it myself. If it succeeds, maybe even market it. I  thought you may be curious about what my intentions were and hope that I have shown at least some evidence I wasn't aiming for anything malicious. Again I apologize for not reading the rules of your forum and I won't take any more of your time.
