Are my calculations correct?
« on: February 06, 2017, 03:57:25 AM »
I'd like to make a 1x 10^-1 M solution of a compound in water. The compound that I'm going to use has a molar mass of 32.45 g/mol. I calculated the amount of compound I need to be 3.245 g. So I'll add this to 996.755 g of water (since molarity is moles solute over liter solution not solvent). Is this correct? Or should it be added to 1L water?

This gives you mass of solution. Its volume may be different from 1 L.
Just dissolve  compound and add enough water to volume of 1 L.
