Zn(s) + H2SO4(l) -> ZnSO4(aq) + SO2(g) + H2O(l)?

If I were to oxidize Zn with H2SO4, would this be the right equation?

Zn(s) + H2SO4(l) -> ZnSO4(aq) + SO2(g) + H2O(l)?

And if i were to react the monomer and polymerize it to 1000 units and the molar mass of the monomer is 104gmol-1, what would the resulting mass of the polymer be?

Zinc reacts with sulfuric acid to produce hydrogen and Zinc sulfate, however, this could be a "byreaction"

The HO-X-OOH confused me! I thought it was your signature or something ;D!

I would write it as HO-[CH2]n-COOH, so people can't confuse the OOH with peroxyacids or something else.

These compounds undergo the usual esterification reaction in the right conditions, with the elimination of H2O. However as the alcohol and acidic functional groups are on the same molecule it can undergo condensation polymerisation. If 1000 units formed the polymer then 999 molecules of H2O should be lost giving a final mass of 86018gmol-1 ((1000 x 104)-(999 x 18)).

If sulfuric is diluted and temperature is not high, the reaction is formed zinc sunfate and hydrogen
If not the reaction which you typed is correct!
