Are these two compounds identical?
« on: April 19, 2017, 11:25:54 AM »
Hello!
So I have tried figuring out what type of isomers these two structures could be. Finally, I came to the conclusion that these could be two identical compounds. But I could be wrong, as I still need more practice when it comes to identifying isomers. I would be grateful if you guys could help me.
Many thanks!

Depending on your level, have you tried naming them? (Also moved this to organic)

Well, I could try naming them, would this help identifying? And sorry, I am a newbie, I did not know where to ask my question, although I am studying inorganic chemistry :)

Yes, if you name them correctly then you will get the answer - same compounds have same name, different compounds have different names  ;)

One can make a model based on one picture, then rotate the model to see whether or not it can be made identical to the second picture.  I can see some ways in which this method might mislead the unwary, but that is probably true of other methods.

I tried this too! It was very helpful indeed, because it is very hard for me to rotate molecules in my head :-\
