It really depends on how you want to define acid/base reaction.
The most basic definition calls just for an acid and a base, say NaOH and H
2SO
4, and production of water during the neutralization.
But, Na
2O is a basic oxide - that is, one that will produce base when reacting with water. SO
3 is an acidic oxide, that is, one that will produce an acid when reacting water. So, the reaction
Na
2O + SO
3 Na
2SO
4can be thought of as another kind of acid/base reaction. Note: there are also two other, intermediate possibilities (NaOH+SO
3 and Na
2O+H
2SO
4).
