Analytical test for total hydrocarbons in alkylation acid?
« on: January 25, 2018, 07:16:10 PM »
I am in the sulfuric acid regeneration business. I am having a hard time finding a method for analytical testing of total carbon or hydrocarbons in alkylation sulfuric acid. The typical matrix in solution is ~90% H2SO4, 5-8% hydrocarbon, and balance water, in addition to ppm levels of heavy metals.

ASTM E223 specifies the tests for grades of sulfuric acid.  Under the heading of "non-volatile" maybe be where the tests for organic impurities would be found, if you have access to these testing standards: https://www.astm.org/Standards/E223.htm
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
