How do we make our own metal paint
« on: May 15, 2018, 09:52:19 AM »
How could we make our own metal (metal-surface) paint, at least as close as to such in effect, and it's feasible.

Did I answer this on the other forum or was that someone else asking the same question   -  I will ask the same thing:

What metal?  Steel? I'll presume steel and also presume that you want some kind of rust preventing/converting primer?

Is it for commercial formulation or your home use?

There are many phosphates and things used as oxygen scavengers which get the O2 before the metal does - so rusting is prevented in the substrate.

It's absolutely for my own use and need.
The metal is iron with 0 - 2 % carbon proportion..
..and Yes it's intended to prevent corrodible metal from being corroded. Thank you

OK - Then like I suggested on the other site - I would just buy a tin of primer for steel from the shop.

I, and others there, asked what the application was - is it indoor?  Warm place? Outdoor, Exposed area, sea side?  Read the tins - if you need a strong rust prevention then get a high zinc, zinc phosphate or aluminium tripolyphosphate loaded primer   -   all the info you need will be on the tin.

Where is the substrate? External/internal, sheltered/exposed?
