Electron configuration of Zn 2+
« on: October 18, 2018, 09:36:06 PM »
Question as above.
My answer was [Ar] 3D 10
The answer I was given however was [Ar]4s2, 3D 10.
Why is this? That is the answer I would expect for Zn.
[Ar]3D10 4S2 is also the answer given  for elemental Zn by Wiberg(2001)'Inorganic Chemistry' (page 1129)
Am I missing something or did my professor make a mistake?  :P

Cheers
